What would change if you stopped trying to impress your clients with every single new bell and whistle?
I spent years chasing the "next big feature." I thought that if I could just show my clients one more flashing light or one more automation trick, they’d finally see me as the indispensable genius I so desperately wanted to be.
But here’s the cold, slightly damp truth: clients don't care about "features." They care about whether their phone rings and whether their bank account grows.
I’ve had a few long nights recently looking at the latest GoHighLevel (GHL) platform updates. It’s easy to get lost in the changelog, feeling like you’re falling behind if you haven't mastered every new toggle. But after a fair bit of trial, error, and some genuinely humbling "why isn't this working?" moments, I've realised that only about twenty percent of these updates actually move the needle.
The Reality of GoHighLevel AI Employee Settings
The big talk is about the AI Employee and the deeper integration of conversational AI. On paper, it sounds like magic. In practice, it’s a bit like hiring a keen intern who occasionally forgets how doors work.
The new GHL AI Conversation workflows are becoming much more granular. You can now set specific "intent" triggers that are far more sophisticated than the old keyword-matching hacks we used to build.
Why does this matter? Because for months, I was terrified that an AI bot would tell a prospect something mental, like promising a free car with every consultation. The new "Confidence Score" and "Restricted Responses" settings are the guardrails we’ve been waiting for.
If you are implementing AI, the goal isn't to replace your sales team. It's to stop the 2:00 AM leads from evaporating into the ether because nobody was awake to say "hello."
WhatsApp Business API and the Death of the email-Only Strategy
For a long time, many of us treated WhatsApp as a bit of a nuisance. It was where clients messaged you on a Sunday afternoon to ask about a minor typo.
However, the latest GoHighLevel WhatsApp integration updates change the game for lead conversion. We are seeing open rates on WhatsApp that make email marketing look like sending a telegram in a thunderstorm.
Specific features that are actually useful:
- Direct Payment Links in WhatsApp: You can now send a Stripe or PayPal link directly in the chat, and GHL tracks the transition from "chatting" to "paid" without the lead ever leaving their favourite app.
- Message Templates: The approval process for WhatsApp templates is now baked directly into the GHL UI, which saves hours of faffing about in the Meta Business Suite.
- Automated Opt-ins: Staying compliant is a nightmare, but the new automated opt-in triggers help keep you on the right side of the law (and the algorithm).
If you aren't using these for your clients yet, you're leaving a lot of money on the table. It’s a bit like owning a Ferrari but only driving it to the bins and back.
Communities and the End of Facebook Groups?
I’ll be honest. I was skeptical about the GHL Communities feature. I thought, "The world does not need another platform for people to ignore notifications on."
But I was wrong. The latest updates to the Communities UI, especially the mobile app experience, are actually quite decent.
The value here isn't just "having a group." It's the fact that it sits inside the CRM. When a lead interacts with a post in your community, you can trigger a workflow. You can't do that with a Facebook group without three different "glue" tools and a prayer.
I’ve spent too much time trying to stitch together different platforms. Having the community, the courses, and the CRM in one place feels like finally cleaning out that "junk drawer" in the kitchen. Everything just fits.
E-commerce and the New Client Portal
GHL has been trying to take a bite out of Shopify’s lunch for a while. For a long time, the e-commerce side of things felt a bit clunky.
The new GHL Product Collections and the redesigned Client Portal are the first time I’ve felt comfortable suggesting GHL for actual physical or digital product sales beyond just a simple funnel.
It’s not just about selling a thing; it's about the post-purchase experience. The new portal allows clients to manage their own subscriptions, view their courses, and check their invoices in one spot.
It sounds boring, but the less a client has to email you to ask "where do I find my receipt?", the more time you have to actually grow your business. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the technical side of this, it might be worth a chat—you can book a consultation to see how to piece this together.
Why Technical "Perfection" is a Trap
I've learned the hard way that a "perfect" GHL setup with 400 branches in a workflow usually breaks the first time a human interacts with it.
The most useful features in these updates aren't the ones that make the system more complex. They are the ones that make it more reliable.
- Custom Folders for Everything: Finally, we can organise workflows and tags. It sounds small, but if you’ve ever waded through a sub-account with 200 "Test" workflows, you’ll know this is a godsend for your mental health.
- Version History for Funnels: I once deleted a client's entire landing page by accident at 11:00 PM. The new versioning tool means you can undo your late-night stupidity with a single click.
- Advanced Attribution: Knowing which Facebook ad actually led to a phone call (without needing a PhD in data science) is probably the most underrated update of the year.
Our job as agency owners isn't to be the most "technical" person in the room. It’s to be the person who uses these tools to solve a problem.
I’m still learning where all the buttons are, and that’s alright. If you’re a bit confused by the sheer volume of updates, you aren’t alone. We’re all just trying to make the software work as hard as we do.
If it's a Thursday and you're wondering how to actually sell these services without sounding like a robot, you should probably get the free book. It covers the bits the software manuals usually leave out—the human bits.
In the end, GoHighLevel is just a toolbox. Don't fall in love with the hammer; fall in love with the house you're building. Every new feature is just a slightly better hammer. Use it, don't overthink it, and for heaven's sake, don't spend all weekend trying to build a workflow that talks to your toaster. It's not worth the grey hair.
