AI for UK pubs: fill the quiet midweek night, not another dashboard
For most UK pubs the best use of AI isn't reviews or a chatbot. It's filling the quiet night. Collect your regulars' mobile numbers with their permission, sell one ticketed midweek night paid up front, and send two well-timed texts. AI does the writing, timing and reporting. The landlord pours pints.
I live on a narrowboat and I'm moored next to canal pubs most weeks. Busy Saturday, dead Tuesday. It's the same story everywhere. And with pubs closing at around two a day in early 2026, a quiet night isn't a small problem any more.
The setup, in three parts
- 01A QR card on the tables. Customers scan it, leave their name and mobile and say yes to hearing about nights at the pub.
- 02One ticketed midweek night, paid up front. A quiz, a curry night, a tasting, whatever suits your pub. And paid tickets mean people actually turn up.
- 03Two texts. One on Sunday to sell the night, one on the day as a reminder.
What the landlord has to do
Almost nothing. No new phone number, no app, no dashboard to check. I set it up and every week an email lands with tickets sold, money taken, covers booked and how big your list is.
That's on purpose. Because landlords are already doing three jobs. Another login just won't get used.
Why it isn't about reviews
- Reviews help on the nights you're already full.
- Profit per pint is thin, and wages and duty keep going up, so the quiet nights are where the money leaks.
- A paid ticket in your bank on a Tuesday is worth more than another five-star review.
- Once the midweek night works, reviews and loyalty are easy to bolt on later.
Where AI actually fits
AI writes the texts in your pub's voice, picks the timing, chases the people who said maybe, and builds the weekly report. So it's sort of the same setup I use in my own business, just aimed at bums on seats.
I'm taking on a small number of pubs at a time, starting with canal-side free houses near where I'm cruising. But it'll work anywhere.

Questions people ask
How can a pub use AI?
The useful bit is boring: collecting regulars' details with their permission, selling tickets for a quiet night up front, and sending the right text at the right time. Most pub AI sold today is about reviews or hotel software, and neither fills a Tuesday.
Does the landlord need to learn any software?
No. In my setup the landlord never logs into anything. They get one email a week with tickets sold, money taken and how many people are on the list.
Is this just a review tool?
No. Reviews help the nights you're already busy. The problem for most pubs is the quiet midweek nights, so that's where this starts. Reviews can come later.
What does it cost to run?
The running costs are small, mostly a few pounds a month in text messages and some printed table cards. Book a free call and I'll walk you through what it'd look like for your pub.
Which pubs is it a good fit for?
Free houses that do food, are busy at the weekend, quiet midweek, and have the owner behind the bar. Tied pubs can work too, but check with your pubco first.
