Independent AI consultant for UK small business owners
I help UK small business owners get AI doing real jobs in the business. Answering enquiries, chasing follow-ups, keeping the CRM tidy, drafting the boring stuff. I work out what's worth automating first, what you should skip, and then we get it running on the tools you've already got.
I'm independent. No software of my own to sell you, no agency team to keep busy. And I run my own business this way, off a narrowboat, with an AI coworker doing most of the admin.
What I actually do
- Find the jobs eating your week, and put a rough number on what they cost you.
- Tell you which AI tools are worth it for a business your size, and which ones are hype.
- Set up AI on your enquiries, so nobody waits hours for a reply.
- Hook it into the tools you already pay for, like your CRM, inbox and calendar, instead of piling on new subscriptions.
- Build it with you, so you understand it and aren't stuck ringing me every time something changes.
- Stay on as a fractional Chief AI Officer if you want someone owning the roadmap.
Who it's for
Owners of service businesses with somewhere between 1 and 50 staff. You've got leads coming in, a CRM you half use, and a week that's mostly admin. You've probably tried a few AI tools already, and none of them talk to each other.
So you don't need AI explained to you. You need someone to pick the right three jobs and get them done properly.
Why I'm worth listening to
I've done more than 7,000 sales calls with agency owners, built and sold my own agency, and I hold 14 GoHighLevel certifications. I wrote the book You're Selling AI Wrong. And I volunteer as a business mentor on the UK Help to Grow: Management course.
But the bit that matters most is that I use all of this myself, every day. If something doesn't earn its keep in my business, I won't recommend it for yours.
How it works
- 01Book a free 30-minute call. Tell me where your hours go.
- 02If it makes sense, start with the AI Ops Audit: a written plan of the five jobs to automate first, in order.
- 03Build it yourself from the plan, or we build it together.
- 04Once it runs, you decide how much of me you keep. Some people keep me on, some don't need to.
"The part I value most is that he's practical. He doesn't sell you hype. He tells you which AI tools are worth it, how to set them up safely, and how to make them earn their keep. His content and outreach playbook is now part of how we market the business."
"If you run a service business and want to adopt AI properly, not just buy it, Steven is the person I'd call."

Questions people ask
What does an AI consultant do for a small business?
Works out which jobs in your week AI can take off you, picks the tools that fit what you already pay for, and gets them set up so they actually run. The good ones tell you what not to buy as well.
Do I need an AI consultant, or can I just use ChatGPT?
If you just want help writing emails, ChatGPT on its own is fine. You need someone when you want AI doing jobs across your inbox, CRM, bookings and follow-up without you babysitting it. That's where most people get stuck.
How much does an AI consultant cost for a small business?
It depends how much of the work you want done for you. All my prices are on the consulting page, in plain numbers. The cheapest way in is a free 30-minute call, and you'll leave knowing whether it's worth paying for anything at all.
Is an independent AI consultant better than an agency?
Not always. But an independent consultant has no software of their own to push and no team to keep busy, so the advice is about your business, not their margins. And you deal with the person who actually builds it.
Do you work with businesses outside London?
Yes. I live on a narrowboat, so I work with businesses all over the UK, and a few overseas, mostly on Zoom.
